So,
We have to lay our lives
On a bed of roses,
Out in the open air,
Among the city glitter,
Under the stars’ glimmer,
Whichever shines brighter.
And when we feel bluer than black,
And green eyes are gleaming grey,
Wrapped into our arms,
Hoping they’ll keep us whole,
We’ll be happy and sad,
That scented thorns keep us awake.
For then we won’t believe,
We once were liked only in dreams.
And like dolphins,
Who forget to breathe,
When eyes are closed,
We know the heart will stay alive,
As long as
We keep in mind,
We once could be so fond for real.
But then, who wants to sleep,
When only silent nights
Can frighten us
With muted sounds
Of one’s heartbeats?
